Russel Becker is a senior health economist and holds the position of Lead for the Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Division at the Centre for Clinical, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (CCHO). He joined CCHO in 2016 as consultant and in 2021 as a senior partner. Russell began his HEOR consulting career in 1995. Since then, he has developed a broad portfolio of HEOR skills. He has a strong, recognized capability in developing various types of health economics models, including budget impact and cost-effectiveness models, from design through final application and/or publication. He also manages projects such as observational studies, national patient surveys, cost-effectiveness analyses, and publication development. He founded Russell Becker Consulting in 2010 and consults with pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and diagnostic companies both large and small. His strategically consults with clients to develop HEOR research plans targeted to meet the requirements of client’s payer, provider, and HTA audiences.
Russell occupied many positions in academia and consultancy firms, he was the Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) for Dymaxium, Inc., where he led a group of 13 project managers, analysts, programmers, and graphic artists. The group specialized in developing economic models and interfaces for models and other HEOR tools. Prior to joining Dymaxium, he was a Senior Manager with IMS Consulting. While there, he worked on key modeling and patient survey studies within the areas of cardiology, asthma, and overactive bladder. He also spent several years as a Senior Manager with Ovation Research Group (currently ICON), a health economics consulting firm. At Ovation, he specialized in developing various types of health economic modeling and a variety of projects in the areas of cancer, HIV/AIDS, urology, and osteoarthritis, including Phase IV and registry studies. He also lectured in economics for three years at George Mason University.
He has over 75 peer-reviewed publications and presentations and has experience teaching and communicating HEOR concepts to drug/device developer, payer, provider, and academic audiences.
Russel is a graduate from GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY: PhD program in Economics (completed 30 hours of coursework), 1989 – 1993 UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA: M.A. in Economics, 1993 and from PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY: B.S. in Business Administration, 1986. He also lectured in economics at George Mason University.
