Aims:

The primary aim of this study is to develop a value set for the EQ-5D-5L health states based on the preferences of the UAE general population.

Secondary aims are to:

1) Examine the construct validity of the EQ-5D-5L instrument in UAE general adult population;

2) Develop population norms for the EQ-5D-5L;

3) Identify determinants of preferences in the UAE population; and

4) Explore the impact of culture and religion on completing preference elicitation exercises.

Methods:

This will be a cross-sectional population-based study involving interviewer-administered face-to-face interviews following the EuroQol EQ-5D-5L valuation protocol and using the EuroQol Valuation Technology (EQ-VT).

A sample of 1150 adults will be recruited from the UAE general population using a two-stage quota sampling.

Interviews will be conducted by trained research assistants who will undergo a 3-day training, and will take place at a private and convenient settings depending on the participant’s preferences.

EuroQol quality control processes will be followed to ensure high quality data.
